Meet Dr. John L. Prather

Overview

Dr. Prather believes that education and training are key to providing the highest level of oral surgical care and dental implant surgery. He received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Cincinnati and his doctoral degree from The Ohio State University College of Dentistry. He completed a general practice residency at Dayton VA Medical Center prior to undergoing a four-year oral and maxillofacial surgery residency at Metro Health Medical Center in Cleveland. Dr. Prather also completed a one-year anesthesia residency at Metro Health.

He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. The continuing education, advancement, and clinical skills that are required for board certification are signs of Dr. Prather’s commitment to excellence in all facets of patient care.

Experience in Implants and Oral Surgery

Dr. Prather focuses on providing the finest in dental implant placement and reconstruction and regularly attends continuing education courses to stay up to date with the latest techniques. He has performed thousands of surgical procedures and placed hundreds of dental implants over the past 20 years. Many procedures required bone grafting and other techniques necessary to ensure excellent and lasting results. Dr. Prather believes in working closely with your dentist to achieve the best possible results.

  I've used Dr. Prather for two oral surgeries. My daughter had her wisdom teeth extracted this summer, and Dr. Prather did an outstanding job. She developed a fever afterwards and had some nausea, which I reported to the office. Dr. Prather personally called me several times to check on her. I also had lower tori removed this summer, and was terrified after reading how much pain people were in after the surgery online. Surprisingly, I did not experience much pain afterward and healed very fast. The staff was patient with all my questions before, and made sure my husband and I understood the post-op procedures. The office called me the following day to check on me. I will use Dr. Prather again if needed.

  Had my wisdom teeth removed here in September. Everyone was incredibly kind and helpful, the doctor did a great job, and my healing has gone by without a hitch. I was informed of how the process was going to go and felt comfortable the whole time. They were also happy to answer questions I had a few weeks after the procedure.   After almost 45 years of no issues, my wisdom teeth decided to become a problem overnight.  Prather was able to see me quickly for a consultation and subsequent extraction.  Very smooth and professional, couldn't be more pleased with the experience.

  We had a great experience at Dr Prather's office.  My daughter was extremely anxious about going under in preparation for wisdom teeth extraction but the staff, specifically Amanda, made my daughter feel comfortable and safe.  Still under the effects of anesthesia, my daughter was in tears that she didn't get a chance to hug Amanda before we left.  My son will be there in 3 weeks for his turn.  Highly recommend!

  Dr Prather and his team are extremely professional and made the wisdom teeth removal very easy! The IV sedation was a major plus. His front desk staff are very personable and are happy to answer any questions. Highly recommend!
